Merpati employs exclusively local pilots whose command of English is limited to operational aviation English. That comment appeared to have come from a westerner, perhaps from Australia or New Zealand. Most lilely, the comment came from a pilot from a competitor airline which employs low time Australian pilots flying in the same region as Merpati. I won' mention the airline but their pilots have developed a bad reputation amongst the Indonesian aviation community and are very much despised.
